The Union proposes full funding or guaranteed appointments for seven years for all doctoral Student Employees in all programs.
The University maintains that each School must determine levels of guaranteed funding at the time of admission.
The University proposes that appointments shall be for at least one semester and that doctoral students beyond their guaranteed funding period will be notified regarding funding for an appointment no later than ninety (90) calendar days in advance for the fall semester, and no later than thirty (30) days in advance of the spring semester and summer session. Funding will be maintained unless the Student Employee is discharged for just cause or other requirements of the Appointment Letter are not met by the Student Employee. A Student Employee shall receive an Appointment Letter no later than thirty (30) calendar days in advance of the start of the appointment, whenever possible. An Appointment Letter will include the general terms of the appointment, including tuition remission, stipend and/or remuneration for services and the general scope of the anticipated responsibilities in addition to the appointment title, effective date, duration, and name of the anticipated faculty supervisor. Notice of an appointment will also include a statement that the position is covered by the Agreement.
The Union proposes in addition that the Appointment Letter shall include the specific expected weekly workload for the appointment and be accompanied by a Union membership application and authorization to deduct dues.
