Union Dues

The Union proposes that all student employees shall be required as a condition of employment to either join the Union and pay dues or pay agency fees. The Union may request that the University impose an administrative fine of $450 per semester on a student employee who fails to pay dues or the agency fee.

The University’s position is that it cannot agree to condition appointments for Student Employees on the payment of dues or agency fees because such appointments are an integral part of students’ fulfilling their degree requirements. The University proposes that Student Employees appointed to a position covered by the Collective Bargaining Agreement may elect to join the Union and pay dues.
