On March 30, 2021, representatives of the University attended the seventy-first bargaining session with the union committee representing graduate student assistants. The bargaining session was held via video conference.
The Union presented a set of revised proposals to be considered as a package, noting that they would withdraw them if not accepted by the University as a whole. As part of the package, the Union presented revised proposals on Health Benefits, Fee Waivers, Compensation, and COVID-19 Funding Extensions. The Union also presented a revised proposal on Nondiscrimination aligning timelines for arbitration with the Article in the CPW-UAW contract and indicated it would be prepared to revise its proposal on Union Activity/Access to eliminate paid release time for three (3) student employees for time spent on bargaining and grievance handling if the University accepted its proposal on Union Dues. The package also included the Union’s agreement to the University’s proposal on No Strike/No Lockout and withdrawal of its proposal on Titles and Classifications.
The University presented a revised proposal on Health Benefits to include increases to the Student Employee Support Fund to $225,000 effective August 15, 2022 and to $250,000 effective August 15, 2023.
The University reiterated that the parties were still far more $35 million apart and agreed to share their costing of the Union’s revised proposals at the next session.
The next bargaining session is scheduled for April 1, 2021.
